Baptisms & Dedications

Baptism

The act of Baptism was first recorded in the New Testament, but is symbolised in the Old Testament too.

John the Baptist encouraged people to repent and turn away from their sins, and make a declaration that they would follow the teachings of God. Jesus himself was baptised by John, although he had no sin to repent from, but that act, and the following moments proclaimed who Jesus is to everyone. Luke 3:1-22

Therefore, it must be understood that baptism is an outward proclamation of an inward conversion. In other words, baptism is a ceremonial act undertaken after a person accepts Jesus Christ as his or her Lord and saviour.

Through discipling, we help a new Christian understand the teachings of the Bible and when they understand enough to appreciate the significance of baptism, we encourage them to take part in the ceremony.

Here at Parkview, we believe in full immersion baptism where the person goes fully under the water. We can do this on the church premises, in some lovely warm water, or perhaps the person might like to be baptised in the sea. The choice is theirs.

Dedication

Unlike some churches, we do not practice infant baptism or christenings. Instead, we offer part of one of our services for you your family to give thanks to God for the blessing of having the child. Also, we believe it is for you to promise to dedicate yourselves to bring that child up in the knowledge of God, to help hem understand heir need for Jesus and their personal saviour and to encourage them to live their life through the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit.

There are no age restrictions placed upon the children, God parents can be chosen if you wish, and you and your family can discuss the content of the service with Kev so that it becomes a very personal experience for you all.

If you would like to be baptised or dedicate your child at Parkview Chapel, please feel free to fill out the form here, or get in contact with one of the church leaders. We’d love to help you or your child take the next step in Christian Faith.
